Aim

This course covers the Training recommended in annex 3 to IMO assembly resolution A.703 (17) – recommendation on training of radio operator related to the General Operator certificate (GOC)

Scope & Objective

A Trainee successful completing this course and passing the prescribed examination will be enabled to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment and to have primary responsibility for radio communication during distress incident and on ship. Given the severe problems being experienced in the GMDSS as a result of the large number of false distress alert that now occur, training will also be provided in technique to avoid the unintentional transmission of false distress alert and the procedure to use in order to mitigate the effects of false distress alerts following unintentional transmission.

Entry Standards

This course framework assumes little knowledge of maritime radio communication practice, but a working knowledge of English as a second language with elementary Computer skills. Every Person in charge of or performing duties on a ship is Required to hold the appropriate the certificate which satisfies the Radio regulation of International Telecommunication and have completed approved education and training and meet the standard of competence specified in section A – IV/2 of the STCW 1995 Code as amended in 2010 manila and be not less than 18 year of age.

Medical Standard

As per M.S (Medical Examination for seafarers) Rules 2000 as amended from time to time.

Course Certificate

OOn successful completion of the course & demonstration of competence, a certificate will be issued certifying that the holder has successfully completed a course of training which meets or exceeds the level of knowledge and competence specified in table A –IV/2 of STCW 95 as amended in 2010 manila.

100% attendance is required for successful completion of the Course. However, in exceptional circumstances the relaxation can be given for genuine reasons
