Aim

This training course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for ratings for maintain safe navigation in accordance with the Regulation III/2, Section A-III/2 and Table A-III/2 of the STCW 1978 Convention, as amended and the STCW Code.

Scope & Objective

Manage the operation of the naval machinery; control and manage electric and electronic installations; evaluate the performance and maintenance of the propulsion installation safety; and watch for the compliance of the legal provisions and measures to guarantee the safety of human life at sea, maritime protection and protection of the marine environment.

Entry Standards

The participant shall have:

  • To hold a certificate of competence as Officer in Charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-roomer designated duty engineers’ officers designed in a periodically unmanned engine-room, whose main propeller engine has a power equal and superior to 750 KW.
  • To have the following course certificates:
    • Use of leadership and management skills.
    • Proficiency on handling survival ships and rescue boats that are not fast rescue boats;
    • Advanced training on firefighting.
    • High voltage installation course.

Medical Standard

As per M.S (Medical Examination for seafarers) Rules 2000 as amended from time to time.

Course Certificate

Upon successful completion of the course, the participant must receive a course completion document for "Upgrading for Chief Engineer Offices and Second Engineering Officers on Ships Powered by Main Propulsion Machinery of 3000 KW Propulsion Power or More”, in accordance with Regulation III/2, Section A-III/2 and Table A-III/2 of the STCW 1978 Convention, as amended and the STCW Code.

Not Above 30 per class

Required Attendance

100% attendance is required for successful completion of the Course. However, in exceptional circumstances the relaxation can be given for genuine reasons

70 % or Above

Sundays & Govt. Holidays

Exam

A test will be conducted on completion of the Course.

Re Exam

The Student will be given two more attempts if score below 70 %. In case if the student fails to get 70 % or above he needs to join the Course as Fresh.

Certificate

After Successfully completion and Passing of Exam, a certificate will be issued to the Student certifying that he has successfully completed the Course.
