Aim

This course is designed to meet the mandatory minimum standards of competence for seafarers in the Maritime English specified in the IMO Model Course 3.17 and the Sections A-II, A-III, A-IV, B-II and B/III of the STCW'78 Convention, as amended, and its STCW Code.

Scope & Objective

The objective is to provide students with information to acquire the knowledge; understanding and competence necessary to achieve the objectives of the learning results to demonstrate their competence demonstrate enough knowledge corresponding of the STCW'78 Convention, as amended. This knowledge shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Improve the maritime English competence.
  • Know and apply the Standard Maritime Communication Phrases.
  • Develop teaching practices to improve maritime communication.
  • Apply the internal communication phrases used on board the ship.
  • Provide seafarers a better understanding of the language rules and conventions used in Standard Maritime Communication Phrases (SMCP).

Entry Standards

The participant shall have:

  • The entry requirements must be in accordance with the STCW'78 Convention, as amended.

Medical Standard

As per M.S (Medical Examination for seafarers) Rules 2000 as amended from time to time.

Course Certificate

Once the course has been successfully completed, the participant must receive a course completion document in "Maritime English”, in accordance with the IMO Model Course 3.17 and the Sections A-II, A-III, A-IV, B-II and B/III of the STCW'78 Convention, as amended, and its STCW Code.

Intake

Not Above 30 per class

Required Attendance

100% attendance is required for successful completion of the Course. However, in exceptional circumstances the relaxation can be given for genuine reasons

Passing Percentage

70 % or Above

Holidays

Sundays & Govt. Holidays

Exam

A test will be conducted on completion of the Course.

Re Exam

The Student will be given two more attempts if score below 70 %. In case if the student fails to get 70 % or above he needs to join the Course as Fresh.

Certificate

After Successfully completion and Passing of Exam, a certificate will be issued to the Student certifying that he has successfully completed the Course.
